Julian James Bespoke Leather Goods is a Black-owned custom leather shop equipping Hoosiers with handmade affordable, luxury goods.
Owned and operated by Tracy James III, Julian James BLG was born from a deep love for craftsmanship and a lifelong passion for creating, according to the website.
James’ journey started at age 8 when he began sewing on his grandmother’s machine — an experience he said sparked his appreciation for precision, design, and the artistry of handmade goods. He then began to explore leatherworking, discovering his own perfect blend of “durability, function and timeless style.”
“From wallets to travel bags, Julian James BLG embodies a commitment to craftsmanship, authenticity, and a passion for creating pieces that stand the test of time,” the website states. “We focus on family first and every ‘client’ is a family member!”

Small-batch leather goods include a variety of bespoke builds and handbags, such as backpacks, cross body bags, totes, and duffles, as well as passport holders, coaster sets, ring trays, cigar keepers. Julian James BLG also features a few limited release collections which include the LOVE Collection Wallets, Mini Totes and Heartstrings.
Each piece is individually handcrafted by skilled artisans with quality materials and meticulous attention to detail, offering customers a luxury feel that isn’t just an accessory. However, this means that there may be slight variations and imperfections that add to the “uniqueness and character” of an authentic Julian James BLG product, according to the website.
Julian James BLG also offers seasonal classes at its storefront inside the Stutz, where community members can learn to make their own bespoke tote bags and get hands-on leatherwork experience.
