Minority Business Highlight: Cretia Cakes

What began as a childhood passion has grown into one of Indianapolis’ beloved destinations for custom cakes and Southern-inspired baked goods.

Founded by pastry chef LaCretia Allen and her husband, Angelo Allen, Cretia Cakes has served the Indianapolis community since 2006. The minority woman-owned bakery specializes in custom cakes, cookies, pies and classic Southern desserts, combining family recipes with professional pastry training to create treats for weddings, birthdays and other special occasions.

Allen discovered her love for baking while growing up on Indianapolis’ west side, where she earned the nickname “Ms. Betty Crocker” after selling homemade treats at school. Although she initially earned a degree in accounting, she later pursued her passion through Ivy Tech Community College’s Baking and Pastry Arts program before gaining industry experience at local bakeries.

Today, customers can choose from a variety of signature desserts, including the bakery’s popular Caramel Obsession Cake, butter pecan cake, red velvet cake, rum cake, cookies and cupcakes. Cretia Cakes also creates custom-designed cakes tailored to weddings, graduations, corporate events and family celebrations.

Beyond baking, Allen serves as a culinary instructor at Ivy Tech and remains active in the Indianapolis community through partnerships with local organizations and events. The bakery has also completed large-scale specialty orders, including more than 2,000 custom cookies during Super Bowl XLVI festivities.

As Cretia Cakes continues to grow, the bakery remains rooted in its mission of delivering handcrafted desserts that celebrate Southern heritage, family traditions and the joy of gathering around good food.
