Deb Whitfield announces campaign for re-election

Still Time. Still Delivering.

LAWRENCE, Ind. — Standing on a record of measurable accomplishments and a vision for Lawrence’s future, Mayor Deb Whitfield today announced her campaign for re-election, inviting residents to continue building on the momentum that has transformed the city over the past four years.

Whitfield’s campaign will be guided by the theme “Still Time. Still Delivering.” – a message that reflects both the progress already achieved and her commitment to continuing the work of making Lawrence one of Indiana’s premier places to live, work, and raise a family.

“Serving the people of Lawrence has been the greatest privilege of my professional life,” Whitfield said. “Together, we’ve proven what is possible when leadership is grounded in collaboration, accountability, and a shared vision. We’ve accomplished a great deal, but our work isn’t finished. There is still time to build on our success and continue delivering results for every resident.”

Since taking office, Whitfield has led an administration focused on strengthening neighborhoods, investing in infrastructure, improving public safety, driving economic development, and enhancing quality of life throughout the city.

Under her leadership, Lawrence has secured millions of dollars in infrastructure investments to improve roads, sidewalks, and neighborhood connectivity; attracted new business investment and jobs; expanded public safety resources; strengthened environmental sustainability efforts; and earned state and national recognition for innovation and community leadership.

Among the administration’s signature accomplishments is the nationally recognized Live Longer in Lawrence initiative, an innovative health and wellness movement designed to make Lawrence one of Indiana’s healthiest communities. Through partnerships with healthcare providers, nonprofits, schools, businesses, and residents, the initiative has expanded access to wellness programming, encouraged healthier lifestyles, increased opportunities for physical activity, and positioned Lawrence as a statewide leader in community health.

The initiative continues to grow through the Live Longer in Lawrence Ambassador Program, supported by grant funding and community partnerships, empowering residents to become champions for healthier neighborhoods and expanding outreach across the city.

Looking ahead, Whitfield said a second term will focus on building on the city’s momentum by continuing investments in infrastructure, supporting responsible economic growth, expanding housing opportunities, strengthening neighborhood services, enhancing parks and public spaces, and ensuring Lawrence remains one of Indiana’s safest and most welcoming communities.

“The momentum we’ve built belongs to this community,” Whitfield said. “Our accomplishments are the result of residents, businesses, community organizations, city employees, and elected leaders working together. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved, and I’m excited about what comes next. The best chapters of Lawrence’s story are still ahead.”

Whitfield was first elected mayor in 2023 with 53 percent of the vote. Her campaign enters the re-election cycle from a position of strength, reporting more than $220,000 in cash on hand as of June 30, 2026, demonstrating broad support from residents and community leaders committed to continuing Lawrence’s progress.
