In the heart of downtown Indianapolis, a dining experience is proving that the American dream is alive and well.
Yoshi Yum (officially known as Yoshi) offers a fast, fresh, and highly customizable menu featuring sushi, poke bowls, and sizzling hibachi.
But beyond the colorful boba teas and fresh sashimi, the restaurant is a testament to immigrant entrepreneurship, community leadership, and the power of a unified business vision.
Located at 72 West New York Street, Yoshi Yum is an Asian fusion concept operating under the Yo-Health, Inc. umbrella.
The company is led by CEO Peter Thawnghmung, a civic and business leader who immigrated to the United States in the 1980s. He serves as the President of the Chin Community of Indiana, a social services organization that helps integrate the Chin people — a minority ethnic population from Myanmar — into the local social fabric.
The mission behind Yo-Health and Yoshi Yum extends far beyond simply serving food. The company explicitly states that most of its support and investment is derived from the immigrant population. Their stated vision is to “provide excellent opportunities for employees, contractors and investors to grow and realize the American dream.”
The name “Yoshi” is actually a playful acronym reflecting the restaurant’s diverse offerings: Yogurt, Sushi and Hibachi.
The restaurant is designed to satisfy both casual cravings and adventurous palates.
While the downtown Indy location is a local favorite, Yoshi Yum has its sights set on broader horizons. They have expanded into Ohio with a location near the OSU campus in Columbus.
