Minority Business Highlight: Loudmouth Books

Loudmouth Books is a woman-owned Indianapolis-based independent bookstore that highlights banned books and uplifts the work of marginalized authors.

Loudmouth was founded by bestselling author and Indianapolis native Leah Johnson in 2023 in response to ongoing book banning that targets BIPOC and queer books and authors.

“At Loudmouth, we’ll always loudly and proudly proclaim our passion for stories by, for, and about marginalized people,” states the company’s website. “Loudmouth is dedicated to channeling our energy and resources right back into events and programs focused on increasing access to diverse literature for all Hoosiers.”

In addition, the bookstore hosts author events, children’s story hour, community programming and more. Events such as the Sapphic Social and Boozy Book Clubs are also held at the bookstore.

Loudmouth Books is located at 212 E. 16th St.
