Minority Business Highlight: Harmon Steel

Harmon Steel, Inc. is a Black-owned steel erection company based in Indianapolis.

Founded in 1988, Harmon Steel has built its reputation on a tradition of outstanding customer service. Led by William A., Thomas D. and William B. Harmon, the business has over 25 years of experience in the industry.

Additionally, the business owners believe diversity is a non-negotiable, with their website stating, “We believe that in order to maximize the richness of experience and knowledge that comes from having a diverse workforce, all facets of our business need to take advantage of this resource.”

Longtime ironworker and Indianapolis native Allan Garnett IV, who recommended the business for a highlight, knows the importance of companies like Harmon Steel to the community.

“[Harmon Steel] is a big-time player in the industry, and they are Black-owned,” Garnett told the Indiana Minority Business Magazine. “I had the pleasure of working with them a couple of years ago and it was one of the best workplace cultures I have ever been a part of.”

Aside from metalwork, Harmon Steel does its part in the community, hosting the “Joy of Giving.” The business raises money for families in the Indianapolis community. The company reported assisting 56 families with expenses such as rent ormortgage payments, repairs, fire recovery and more, in a single year.
